The Geely Emgrand 7 was one of the first Chinese compact sedans to sell properly in Saudi Arabia, and the reason to buy one used is unchanged: it is the cheapest route to a full-size four-door. Buy on condition rather than badge.
What to inspect on a used Geely Emgrand 7
Read the mechanical and electrical sections of the CarSwitch inspection report before you offer on an Emgrand 7.
Less than any Japanese compact sedan of the same year. Asking prices across our Kingdom listings run from SAR 8,750 to SAR 8,750, and recorded mileage moves the number more than the model year does.
Budget for mechanical work before you agree a price. 38% of the Geely Emgrand 7s we inspect in Saudi Arabia show a fault in the engine, gearbox, suspension or steering, against the 16% we would expect for sedans of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom, and 24% show an electrical fault against the 7% expected for that same class. Bodywork is the segment's story rather than this car's: 71% carry previous paint or panel repair, but the later Geely Emgrand runs at 77% and even a Toyota Corolla sits at 60%. That is a history, not a fault — judge the standard of the repair on the car in front of you.
The Toyota Corolla is the better car and the easier resale at about 64% after five years, so stretch to one if the money is there. The Changan Alsvin is the closer fight and cleaner on bodywork, at 44% against the 31% expected for cars of its age and mileage here. The Geely Emgrand is the same idea, updated.
The later cars, and be strict about it. The Emgrand 7 ran through the 2010s and was facelifted mid-decade, gaining a better cabin, revised suspension tuning and quieter running; production wound down once the newer Emgrand arrived.
Better than its class — about 59% of its value after five years, against roughly 51% for sedans of the same age and price.
