Frequently asked questions

CarSwitch is a platform to sell and buy used cars in Saudi Arabia. To sell your used car in Saudi Arabia, simply fill out details about yourself and your car. We will visit your location to take photos, inspect, and advertise your car. We will also agree upon a success based fee in the event of a sale. Within a couple of weeks, we shall have a serious buyer for your car and we’ll arrange a viewing and test drive at your location. Once you and the buyer agree on a price, send us the required documents to transfer ownership of the car and close the sale. To buy a used car in Jeddah, all you have to do is book a test drive for a car that you like through our app or website. Then, one of our Switchers will get back to you to check if the timeslot you’ve selected is available. If you like the car, you can pay a deposit to reserve the car till you gather the money to buy it. We will help you out with the paperwork required to transfer ownership of the car.
If you sell your used car in Jeddah before your insurance policy expires, then you will need to cancel your insurance. You are also entitled to a partial refund of the insurance. All you need is a copy of your ID or residence permit number (Iqama number) and phone number.
There are 2 ways to transfer ownership of your used car in Jeddah. The first one is from the comfort of your home. All you need to do is provide us with your vehicle registration licence (Istimara), Copy of ID or residence permit (Iqama), and ensure motor vehicle periodic inspection report (Fahas) is valid. The buyer must provide us with a copy of ID or residence permit (Iqama), and ensure that they bought valid insurance under their name. The buyer will also have to pay a fee for vehicle ownership transfer. Yourself and the buyer will receive an SMS through the Absher platform after the documents have been verified at which time, the buyer will be able to send payment for the car through the platform. The second method is attending in person at one of our partner showrooms. Here, you and the buyer will be present along with our sales agent. The documents required are the same as the ones mentioned above. The showroom representative will assist you with uploading all the documents, and once they have been verified, the buyer will be able to send payment for the car through the platform along with the fee for vehicle ownership transfer.
We will work hard to help sell your used car in Jeddah, however, if you end up selling the car on your own, then our success based fee won’t apply. In addition, we will still guide you through the car ownership transfer process. We only ask that if you post your car on another platform, you do so by matching the listing price that you select on CarSwitch to give us a fair shot.
We charge AED 150 (+VAT) admin fee which includes organizing a specialist visit to inspect / photo, handling calls, filtering car buyers and arranging test drives. When we sell your car a success-based fee of AED 1,000 up to 3% (+VAT) will apply (depending on the value of your car but agreed with you up-front) which you can build into your car price. This fee is applicable only if we are able to help you sell your car. We take all the headaches for selling your car while you get the best price! Your Used Car for Sale in Dubai will go quickly and without hassle!
Still paying off your car loan? A car under finance can be sold, although this is a complex process with a high level of risk involved. Looking for a managed service you can trust to take care of this instead? - CarSwitch.com can help you through the entire process whilst you sit back and relax!

To sell your car which is currently under loan - first, you will need to contact your bank to find out the outstanding loan amount as well as the early settlement fee if applicable. Once you know the exact outstanding amount, the 2 options you have to sell your car is:
  • Find a buyer willing to clear your auto loan
In order to guarantee the buyer that the transfer of ownership will be done to their name once the auto loan is cleared, a “Seller's Agreement” will be required to be signed. The buyer will then need to visit the bank with the seller for the loan payment. The safest method to make this payment is via cash or manager's cheque.
  • Search for a buyer who is willing to buy the car on finance
In this scenario, the buyer has to agree to use the same bank as the seller. Once the buyer agrees to this and approval for auto loan transfer has been received by the bank, the buyer needs to present a car valuation certificate against the loan amount. CarSwitch can organize this certificate for a cost starting from AED 300. Once this certificate is obtained, the seller can settle the owed amount with the bank. The buyer will need to provide the bank with the new registration card along with insurance papers to complete the transfer and close the loan.
Sounds complicated and want a safe and secure way to sell your car which is currently under loan?
CarSwitch can handle it for you, through our partner network, and do it all the time! We’ll arrange for a legal seller agreement through our partner network to keep the buyer protected. Trust us. We know how to sell cars in Dubai :) You can also read our full guide to selling cars under bank financing to find out more.
If you have moved out of the U.A.E for any reason and you haven’t been able to export or sell your car, the steps to selling your car in Dubai from abroad are as follows:
Get a power of attorney drafted by a professional so that it clearly and precisely conveys your situation. It is also important to appoint as your agent someone you trust or a professional firm that offers POA services. After your POA has been prepared, you will need to sign it in the presence of a notary or a solicitor, depending on the laws of the country you are signing it. In return, a notary or a solicitor will also sign the POA and state that the document was “witnessed by” him or her and the appropriate, usually embossed seal is placed.
The next step is to get it legalised by a foreign affairs department. This is important since you intend to use the POA in Jeddah, i.e., outside of the country where you signed it. Legalization is a process whereby a government body (usually, a ministry of foreign affairs) confirms that the signature of a solicitor or notary on the POA is valid and should be recognized in the U.A.E. Once your POA is legalized by the ministry of foreign affairs or equivalent authority, then you can contact Jeddah Embassy or Consulate in the country where you signed your POA or nearest country to get it attested. The second last step is to legalize your POA by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Jeddah. To complete this step, you do not necessarily have to be personally present in Jeddah and anyone can do it on your behalf. Finally, you need to get the POA translated into Arabic by a certified legal translator, if the POA was done in a foreign language. It is important to note that the translator must be licensed by Jeddah Ministry of Justice.
Once the POA is legalized and in place, your agent can now represent you during the transfer process. As a seller, you need to clear any outstanding finance you have availed from a bank to sell your car. Once the loan is paid off, your bank informs the Road and Transport Authority (RTA) to update the records and clear the loan from the RTA system. The RTA will send a SMS text message to you when the records are updated. This usually takes 24-48 hours. Next, your vehicle can be transferred to a new owner only after it passes a vehicle test of the RTA. After checking the vehicle, the RTA issues a test certificate and stamps either “Passed” or “Failed”. If the result is “Failed”, the test certificate contains the list of problems that need to be fixed in the vehicle. To avoid possible last-minute surprises, it is best for you or your agent to evaluate your vehicle at one of the RTA vehicle test centres ahead of advertising. It is important to check and clear fines on your vehicle, as all fines must be cleared before you sell any car in Dubai.
Once the vehicle test is done successfully and all fines are cleared, the buyer can now proceed to get an insurance for the vehicle. If your existing insurance policy has 7 months or more remaining, the policy can be transferred, provided the new owner meets the required criteria of the insurance company. The final step is to transfer the ownership of the vehicle. You, as a seller, or your authorised agent with a valid POA for Vehicle Sale, should be present at the point of transfer with the valid identification document plus a valid test certificate.
After verifying the documents, the RTA representative asks the parties to sign a sale and purchase agreement and the buyer pays the purchase price to either you, or your authorised agent and the transfer fees to the RTA.
When you plan on selling your car in Abu Dhabi that is registered in Dubai, the vehicle ownership must be transferred accordingly to reflect the new legal liabilities of the vehicle owner. The first step is to clear all outstanding traffic fines incurred. Next, the loan, if applicable, must be settled with the bank before you sell any car in Dubai. Additionally, your insurance must be terminated or transferred, if applicable, to the buyer or else the buyer will need to purchase a new insurance policy. The documents required by you are the mulkiya (vehicle registration card), passport with residence visa (original and copy), original emirates ID, and a confirmation of final loan payment if applicable. Before the vehicle can be registered in Abu Dhabi, it must be unregistered in Dubai and marked for export. The vehicle will be transferred via recovery truck from Dubai to Abu Dhabi as you cannot drive an unregistered vehicle. Once it reaches Abu Dhabi, the buyer can proceed with registering the vehicle.
Our primary motivation is to get you the absolute best price possible, and so if you have a couple of days of time we always encourage you to post the car at an attractive price and we’ll secure an end user buyer in no time at all hassle free (as we’ll handle it all from fielding phone calls to attending test drives in your location). In case you simply don’t have the time, we’ll arrange an instant cash offer through our auction platform so you get over and done with in the same day.
CarSwitch will provide you with concrete recommendations based on the car value calculator that account for your specific make, model, mileage, and historical data from thousands of past transactions. Ultimately, we aim to get the best price for your used car in Jeddah, and the testament is that we let you control it. In addition to that, you can review performance of your ad compared to other cars on the platform and reduce your price to get more traction for your ad through the seller center.
Yes, you can sell a car if it is under a lease contract with a bank. It starts with you and the buyer visiting the bank with the required documents - Copy of the ID or Residence permit (Iqama) of the buyer and seller, driver’s licence of the buyer, copy of the buyer’s passport, proof of Saudi national address, salary certificate of the buyer with chamber of commerce attestation, bank statements of the buyer for the last 6 months. Once the approval has been received, the buyer makes the payments through SADAD.
There are 3 ways to sell your used car in Jeddah. The first is by using a managed service such as CarSwitch, where you can get the maximum value for your car without doing any of the work. The second is through dealerships, where you will sell your car for a lower price but can do so quickly. The third is through classifieds such as Haraj, which is a cheap alternative but you have to deal with the painful, and high risk process from coordinating with strangers to transferring your car on your own.
The better the condition of your used car, the higher the chances of selling for a higher value! With a managed service (CarSwitch.com), a specialist will visit you for a car inspection and snap high quality pictures of your car. This will give you a good idea of the condition and our specialists can even guide you on issues that need to be addressed. It is crucial that tires and brakes meet the RTA standards as you won't be able to sell your car otherwise. The following are a few other points you should consider fixing when selling your car: Change/refill oil, brakes, transmission fluids.Address oil leaks and engine noise issues if applicableReplace headlamps and clean foggy headlightsFix scratches/dents Ready to sell your used car? Tell us about your ride in a few clicks and a switcher will give you a call to schedule your car inspection. You can also read up on tips to retain your car’s resale value.
We will work hard to help you sell your car in Dubai or anywhere in Jeddah. However, if you end up selling your car on your own then our success-based fee won’t apply. In addition, we will still guide you through the process to make sure that the transfer of car ownership at the RTA is a hassle free experience. We only ask that if you post your car on another platform, that you match the listing price you select on CarSwitch to give us a fair shot.Selling car couldn`t be easier!
If you can afford to clear the outstanding balance when selling your car, then do so and check with the bank to ensure that they have electronically notified the RTA that your loan has been settled. If you cannot afford to do so, the next step is to sell your car to a buyer who is willing to pay off the loan in cash. Depending on how much is outstanding in your car loan and the fair value of your car, you can ask for the entire amount plus a little extra, the exact amount outstanding, or an amount less than the outstanding loan. For this, you will need to ask the bank how much is needed to settle your loan including any early settlement fees. Then, sign a seller’s agreement or Power of Attorney that would give the buyer power to transfer the car to his/her name once he/she clears your bank loan. These documents can be secured through a Notary Public or an authorised supplier of seller’s agreements.
Next, ask the buyer to meet you at the bank with the money, preferably in the form of cash or a certified manager’s cheque for the value of the car. At the bank, the buyer can hand over the relevant amount to the bank to clear the loan. The buyer can take the car home at this point. To complete the transfer of ownership, however, they will be required to go to the RTA once the bank electronically informs the RTA that the car is no longer under mortgage.
If you have moved out of the U.A.E for any reason and you haven’t been able to sell your car, the steps to sell your car from abroad are as follows:

You can sell any car in Dubai in the 30-day grace period after your visa expires/is cancelled. Within this period, you can present your passport as valid ID at the RTA.

Online car valuation

CarSwitch's experts have compiled their knowledge into a free online car valuator that can be used to quickly determine the worth of a used car. The car valuator uses a proprietary algorithm to help you assess a fair value for your vehicle.

Exciting seller badges

Are you wondering 'how can I make my car listing more prominent when I sell my car in KSA?' The main factors affecting a used vehicle's price are mileage and condition. Location also plays an important role. You can use these free badges to do so:

Mileage: A car's low or high mileage influences its purchase and selling value, as well as the expected cost of maintenance and repair. The average yearly mileage is 12,000 miles, therefore a car with less than 60,000 miles after five years is considered low. If it's a lot more, it's considered high.

Condition: When determining value, condition is just as crucial as mileage. Low-mileage vehicles can take more than their fair share of abuse. Vehicles with torn leather seats, non-functioning electrical equipment, scratches or dents, or other comparable defects will not be in high demand.

Location: When it comes to selling cars, the location of the vehicle is equally crucial. Along the coasts and in warmer areas, convertibles and sports vehicles attract greater prices.

Price dropped: With this logo, you can inform potential buyers that the price of your used car has fallen.

Urgent sale: Use the urgent sale emblem if you need to sell your car right now. It allows you to set a countdown of how many days you have left to sell your car.
