Buy on the 2015-onward side. The aluminium-bodied F-150 arrived for 2015, lighter and much better inside, and turbocharged V6s replaced the V8 in most trucks; the pre-2015 truck is steel-bodied and a generation behind. The next redesign came for 2021. A 2017 to 2020 truck gives you the modern hardware without the newest-shape premium.
Strong, and the best case for buying one — about 52% after five years, against roughly 47% for pickups of the same age and 46% across our Ford range.
The bodies come through in better shape than the segment. Evidence of prior body or panel repair shows on 30% of the Ford F-150s we inspect in Saudi Arabia, against the 54% we would expect for pickups of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom, and interior staining on just 4% against the 16% expected for trucks of this age and mileage here. That is a class where cabins normally take a beating, so it is worth reading the report to see which side of the average a given truck falls on.
The GMC Sierra costs less and keeps its cabin cleaner still, at 2% for interior staining. The Chevrolet Silverado asks similar money but shows an electrical fault on 26% of the ones we inspect. The Ford Ranger is the cheaper Ford, and the weaker one on both resale and mechanical condition.
