The Toyota Fortuner is Saudi Arabia's default seven-seat 4x4 — Hilux underpinnings, a body-on-frame chassis and a cabin that crosses the Kingdom without complaint. We have 3 listed.
What to look over on a used Toyota Fortuner
Read the underbody and panel sections of the CarSwitch inspection report before you offer on any Fortuner in the Kingdom — that is where two identical-looking cars stop being identical.
Around SAR 93,000 buys a 2022 Fortuner and SAR 75,000 a 2021. Live prices run from SAR 59,000 for a late-2010s car up to SAR 132,000 for a current-year one, about 22% below a new Fortuner.
That reading spans more than 550 Toyota Fortuners CarSwitch has inspected in the Kingdom: only 11% show a mechanical fault in the engine, gearbox, suspension or steering, against the 18% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage here, and 3% carry an electrical fault against the 8% expected for that class. Previous body or panel repair shows on 38%, below the 47% normal here.
The Hyundai Santa Fe costs less and rides better, but 33% of the ones we inspect show a mechanical fault, against the 26% we would expect for SUVs of its age here. The Kia Sportage is cheaper again and holds 61%, but smaller and road-biased.
2020 to 2022 is the sweet spot. The second-generation Fortuner arrived for the 2016 model year on the then-new Hilux platform, so 2016 is the line to be on the right side of. The 2021 facelift added a new nose, a bigger screen and more power, so a late pre-facelift car is the value buy.
About 65% after five years, against roughly 56% for SUVs of the same age and mileage. Even the dearer Toyota Prado trails at about 62%.
