Asking prices across our Kingdom listings run from SAR 20,000 to SAR 116,049, and the way to read that is by year rather than by badge. Among 2024 cars an MG5 saloon went for SAR 30,000, a ZS SAR 45,000, and both the HS and the seven-seat RX8 SAR 65,000. Three years earlier, in 2021, the MG5 was SAR 25,000, the ZS SAR 35,000 and the HS SAR 39,000.

MGs average about 53% of their value after five years across the models we can measure — middling in percentage terms, but on a car that cost little to begin with the riyals lost are modest.

A used Chery is the closest-priced alternative and the more comfortable car. MG has the wider dealer coverage, which matters when something needs a part.

They need buying carefully rather than avoiding. Of the 1,136 MGs we have inspected in Saudi Arabia, 15% show a mechanical fault in the engine, gearbox, suspension or steering, against the 10% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom, and 45% carry evidence of previous body or panel repair where 38% would be normal for comparable cars. The MG5 is the commuter pick and the widest choice on our books. The HS is the best all-rounder, a mid-size SUV with the turbo engine. Take the ZS for city parking and low running costs, or the RX8 if you need seven seats.
