The average used car in KSA on CarSwitch costs SAR 92,863 and has covered 119,097 km. Use those two numbers as your reality check: a car priced far below the average with low mileage deserves a closer look at its inspection report, and one priced above it should have something to show for it, like newer age, lower mileage or a higher trim.

Price and mileage: what the numbers really tell you

Mileage is the first thing most buyers compare, and in KSA the range is wide. The car with the lowest mileage on CarSwitch has done just 2 km and is priced at SAR 58,500. The car with the highest mileage has done 706,562 km and costs SAR 15,000.

Mileage is not the whole story. Age, model, trim, accident history and service history all move the price. Two cars with the same mileage can be priced very differently because one was looked after and the other was not. That is why the inspection report matters more than the odometer alone.

How to set a budget for a used car in Saudi Arabia

Pick your ceiling first. Decide the most you will spend, then use the price filter at the top of the page.
Think monthly as well as total. Many listings show an instalment per month on the card, so you can compare cars on what you would pay each month, not only the sticker price.
Leave room for the extras. Registration, insurance and a first service come on top of the price of the car.

What to check before you buy a used car in Saudi Arabia

Paint, panels and accident history. Read the bodywork section of the inspection report first. A repaired panel is common and fine when it was done well. Of the 5,220 most recent cars we sold in Saudi Arabia, 50% had a minor accident on record, 47% had none and 117 (2%) had a major one. Compare the same model and year, and a car with a minor accident sold for about 10% less than a clean one (almost 2,000 cars across 234 model-years). That is the discount to expect.

Service history. A steady record across the years beats a burst of stamps just before the sale. Among cars with a service record on file, 59% had been serviced at the agency, 25% at an independent garage and 16% had none. Like for like, agency-serviced cars sold for about 16% more than garage-serviced ones. Garage-serviced cars sold faster, in about 30 days against 37 for agency cars, so a clean garage record is not a problem.

Mileage against age. The cars we sold averaged about 57,000 km at 3 years old (model year 2023), 113,000 km at 6 years (2020) and 174,000 km at 10 years (2016). A car well above those numbers for its age has worked harder than most.

Specs. 88% of the cars we sold were Saudi spec and 9% GCC spec, with a small number of Korean and American imports. Check the spec label, because it affects parts, insurance and resale.

Warranty. 13% of the cars we sold still had manufacturer warranty running (654 of 5,220). Ask for the expiry date and check whether it transfers to you.

Air conditioning. Test it at idle, not just while driving. Weak cooling in traffic is a classic local issue.

Finance. Make sure the car is clear of any bank finance before money changes hands.

By cars sold: Toyota (525) and Hyundai (498), then Ford (294), Chevrolet (293), Nissan (280), Changan (249), MG (246) and BMW (244). The most traded single models are the Hyundai Accent, Toyota Corolla, Chevrolet Captiva and Hyundai Tucson.

Are Chinese used cars common in Saudi Arabia?

Yes, and in volume. MG and Changan alone made up about one in ten of our sales (495 cars) at roughly SAR 37,000 to 45,000 each, well below the Saudi average of about SAR 65,800.

Which used cars sell fastest in Saudi Arabia?

Mazda 6 and Ford Explorer (about 23 days), Hyundai Elantra and Mitsubishi Pajero (24). The slow end is the BMW 7 Series (47 days), Chevrolet Malibu (46), GMC Yukon (44) and Dodge Charger (43). The national average is 35 days.

How much value does a used car lose in Saudi Arabia?

Less than you might expect. A model-year 2024 car sold for about SAR 84,600 and a 2020 car for SAR 66,600, so four more years cost about a fifth. A 12-year-old car still sold for about SAR 36,300. These are averages across models.

Are used hybrids and electric cars available in Saudi Arabia?

Hybrids are a small but real part of the market: we sold 112 at an average of about SAR 103,000, led by the Toyota Camry hybrid (19), RAV4 (16) and Highlander (13). Only 17 electric cars sold, at about SAR 162,000 on average, including 8 Lucid Air.

Riyadh has about two out of three of our listings, Jeddah about one in five, and Dammam and Al Khobar about one in fourteen each. A few other cities have a handful of listings.
