A 2016 Ford Mustang averaged SAR 54,000 in our closed Saudi sales — coupe performance for the price of a used family hatchback. Asking prices on our current listings run from SAR 40000 to SAR 98000.

Which used Ford Mustang year should you buy?

2018 to 2022, and 2015 is the line that matters most. That year the Mustang finally got independent rear suspension in place of the live axle it had carried until 2014, which transformed how it rides on Kingdom roads, and the 2018 facelift added the ten-speed automatic and a digital instrument pack. Then choose your engine: the turbocharged four is cheaper to buy, insure and fuel, while the 5.0-litre V8 is the car people actually want.

Is a used Ford Mustang reliable in Saudi Arabia?

Mechanically these are tough; the electronics need checking. 16% of the Ford Mustangs we inspect in Saudi Arabia show an electrical or electronics fault, against the 7% we would expect for coupes of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom. Much of that traces to the same causes on every sports coupe here — aftermarket audio, alarms and exhaust wiring fitted by previous owners, plus heat cycling on a car parked outdoors. It is rarely structural and usually cheap to correct once identified, but you want it identified before you agree a price.

Ford Mustang or Dodge Challenger?

The Dodge Challenger is similar money, bigger, more comfortable and more usable with rear passengers — the better car for long drives. The BMW M4 is quicker and more sophisticated and will cost you far more to keep. The BMW 218 is the cheap route to a coupe, though it shows tyre problems at 10% against an expected 3%. The Mustang wins on the V8 and on parts availability.

What to look over on a used Ford Mustang

  • Aftermarket wiring behind the dashboard and in the boot.
  • Tyres, brakes and clutch — the tell-tales of hard use.
  • Evidence of engine remapping or exhaust modification.
