Frequently asked questions

2019 to 2021 is the range to shop. The coupe kept one body from 2008 to the end of production in 2023, so the meaningful dividing line is the 2015 revision that brought the eight-speed automatic and a modern interior; the last few model years then added equipment without changing the mechanicals. A late car costs more and is not a newer design.

Slightly better than the class, at about 42% of its value after five years against roughly 40% for coupes of the same age and price. Now that production has ended, the V8 cars are the ones with a reason to firm up.

Longer than its reputation suggests. The Challengers we inspect in Saudi Arabia show a median of around 126,000 km, and no fault category on them runs above what we would expect for coupes of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom. The reason is architecture: an old-fashioned rear-drive layout, a naturally aspirated engine and no air suspension means there is very little to go expensively wrong. The Chevrolet Camaro, by contrast, shows electrical faults at 20% against an expectation of 8%.

The Camaro costs more, returns about 46% and is the better car through a corner. The BMW M4 is quicker and far more sophisticated, returns about 37%, and will cost several times as much to maintain. The Mercedes E250 is the sensible alternative if you have talked yourself out of a coupe.
