Used prices undercut the premium German alternatives sharply, running from SAR 25000 for an early-2010s car to SAR 265000 for a current-year one. The like-for-like ladder is the one to use: among 2023 cars a T-Roc went for SAR 63,000, a Tiguan SAR 91,000, a Teramont SAR 119,000 and a Touareg SAR 146,000. Four years older changes the picture entirely — a 2019 Tiguan sold at SAR 58,000 and a 2019 Teramont at SAR 70,000.
Modestly, which is the used buyer's opening: Volkswagens average about 44% of their value after five years across the models we can measure, so a well-kept three-year-old car is the sweet spot in the range.
The interiors last better than the class does: staining shows on 8% of the 671 Volkswagens we have inspected in the Kingdom, at a median of 98,000 km, against 11% for cars of the same age and mileage here. Mechanically it depends entirely on servicing, because the turbo petrol engines and dual-clutch automatics are unforgiving of skipped intervals. Check the gearbox at low speed, the cooling in traffic, and the service book for gaps — the report tells you which of two similar cars was looked after.
