Which model matters far more than the badge. Compared like for like on year, a 2022 520 sold at SAR 108,000, a 2022 X6 at SAR 170,000 and a 2022 730 at SAR 190,000; go back three years and a 2019 730 went for SAR 122,000 against SAR 138,000 for a 2019 X5. Live asking prices on our Saudi listings sit between SAR 19750 for an early-2010s car and SAR 700000 for a current-year one.

Not their strength, which is why used ones are good value: taken across the model curves we can measure, BMWs average about 44% of their value after five years in the Kingdom.

Mercedes is more comfortable and the safer bet here; Audi the more anonymous. BMW is the pick when you do the driving.

The cars themselves come in clean and it is the consumables that let them down. Across more than 2,000 BMWs we have inspected in the Kingdom, 9% showed interior staining against the 12% we would expect for cars of the same age and mileage here, so the cabins survive the summer better than the class. Both findings are cheap to fix, which is the point — read the report, price the tyres in, negotiate.

The 730 is the range's boldest deal, a flagship saloon on the understanding that everything on it costs flagship money to fix. The 520 is the sensible version of the same idea. The X5 is the family choice, and the X7 is the one when three usable rows are the requirement.
