2020 to 2022, from the first generation BMW built between 2018 and 2023 on its compact front-drive platform. A much larger second-generation X2 followed for 2024 with a taller body and different styling, so the two are not really the same car — establish which one a listing is before comparing on price.

Everything the X2 is cross-shopped against here is bigger and dearer. The Lexus RX350 is a size up, shows body or panel repair on 34% of inspections against an expected 44%, and is the low-drama choice. The Chevrolet Tahoe is dearer again and built for families and highways. Take the X2 for a premium badge, a small footprint and the lowest fuel bill of the three.

Mechanically it throws up no recurring faults; the bodywork is what to read. Evidence of prior body or panel repair shows on 54% of the BMW X2s we inspect in Saudi Arabia, against the 40% we would expect for compact SUVs of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom — this is a low, wide car threading city traffic, and bumper and panel work is the result. Bigger SUVs fare better because they are easier to place: the Toyota Land Cruiser sits at 19% against an expected 43%. What matters is the quality of the repair, which is what the report describes.

  • Bumper mounts and boot shuts for signs of earlier impact.
  • Rear headroom, which the roofline costs you.
