The Cadillac CTS was the brand's mid-size sport sedan in the Kingdom before the CT5 took over, a saloon that ran three generations of mostly V6 and V8 power and competed on price against BMW and Mercedes rather than on badge weight.

Frequently asked questions

The first two generations, 2003 to 2013, were V6 or V8 cars; a turbocharged four joined the line-up only in the final 2014 to 2019 generation. Judge by mileage and service history first — with such a wide range of ages in circulation, a well-kept older car often beats a neglected newer one.

The BMW 735 costs considerably more and represents the badge-first choice at this size. The Lexus ES250 also asks more but reports mechanical faults on just 4% of cars against the 15% we would expect for large sedans of this age, a track record the CTS has not matched. The CTS remains the value pick if the mileage and history check out.
