Air suspension, a 3.0 L V6 and a platform shared with SUVs costing considerably more: the Touareg is the least ostentatious way to buy that engineering. In Saudi Arabia it comes in two versions that sit unusually far apart. The current Touareg arrived in 2018 and was facelifted in 2023, mostly around the lighting at both ends.
Is a used Touareg the better buy?
Yes, if you inspect properly first. A nearly new example generally runs around SAR 140,000 to SAR 265,000, roughly 27% below the new entry price — about SAR 50,000 saved. Spend part of that on a full mechanical check and keep the rest aside for suspension work, then browse the used Touaregs listed now.
Compare a new entry car with a used top trim — that is the honest choice on this model.
How much does the Volkswagen Touareg cost in Saudi Arabia?
SAR 189,000 buys the Luxury, already fitted with the 15-inch screen, air suspension and all-wheel drive. The R-Line costs SAR 299,000, and that gap is the widest in the Volkswagen range — it buys presentation and cabin upgrades rather than a different car underneath.
Which Touareg trim is the one to buy?
The Luxury, comfortably. Both trims share 340 BHP, 450 Nm, the same suspension and the same drivetrain, so every meaningful component is common to the two. Unless the R-Line's specific look and interior are what you are buying the car for, the money is better kept.
Volkswagen Touareg or Audi Q7?
The Touareg gives you the same group hardware with more equipment as standard and a quieter cabin on the highway, for less. The Audi Q7 takes the seven seats and the badge, and it will be easier to move on in a few years — a fair point against the Volkswagen. The BMW X5 is the one to drive if handling comes first.
What does a Touareg cost to run in Saudi Arabia?
Expect around 9 Km/L from the V6, and treat the air suspension as the component that will eventually need budget. Servicing runs through SAMACO Automotive in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al Khobar; on a car with this much technology, being close to the franchised network matters more than it does on a simpler vehicle, so weigh that before choosing this over a rival with wider coverage.
How does the Touareg age, and what should you watch for?
These cars cover serious distance — the ones CarSwitch inspects run to a median of around 140,000 km. At that point the air springs, the electronic dampers and the cooling system determine whether an example is good value or a bill waiting to happen, and none of them announce themselves on a test drive. On a large German SUV the inspection report is not optional reading; it is the purchase decision.
