The BMW M235 name has covered two very different cars: a rear-drive six-cylinder coupe, and the newer four-door Gran Coupe built on a front-wheel-drive platform with a turbo four. Know which one you are looking at before you shop.


What to inspect on a used BMW M235

  • Confirm coupe or Gran Coupe — different drivetrains, different character.
  • Clutch and gearbox feel on manual cars.
  • Full service history, especially on higher-mileage cars.
  • Tyre wear pattern for signs of hard cornering.

The original coupe ran 2014 to 2021 with a rear-drive chassis and a turbo six. The Gran Coupe version, sold from 2020, is a four-door, front-drive-based car with a turbo four instead. If you want the driving feel the M badge implies, confirm you are buying the coupe, not the Gran Coupe.
