The panels are the surprise: only 33% of the MG RX5s we inspect in Saudi Arabia carry evidence of prior body or panel repair, against the 42% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom. For a budget SUV at a median of about 88,000 km that beats the class, and the Hyundai Kona at 49% against 41% for its own group. Nothing else rises above expectation, so the question is servicing, not a model weakness.

The Jolion is newer, cheaper and keeps far more of its money — the pick for a short ownership. The Hyundai Tucson costs more and earns it with a dealer in every city and a mechanical record below its segment expectation, at 14% against 18%. The RX5's argument is size and specification for the money.

2020 to 2022. The RX5 launched in the second half of the 2010s and was revised around the turn of the decade with new styling, a bigger screen and better materials. Those cars have the improved cabin without the price of the last examples.

It gives up a lot — about 39% of its value after five years, against roughly 51% for Saudi SUVs and 53% across used MGs. Buy it at four years old and someone else has paid for that. The Haval Jolion leads the class at about 65%.
