Our closed Saudi sales show a 2024 Hyundai Kona at about SAR 66,000, a 2023 at SAR 64,000, a 2022 at SAR 51,000, a 2021 at SAR 49,000 and a 2019 at SAR 38,000. The step between 2022 and 2023 is the biggest on that ladder. Listings run from SAR 45,000 to SAR 72,000.

Two things to look at, and one of them is electrical. A fault in the electrics or electronics shows on 10% of the Konas we inspect in the Kingdom, against the 5% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage here — usually sensors, cameras and infotainment rather than anything that stops the car, but all of it costs money to chase. Prior body or panel repair sits at 49% against the 41% expected for the same class — city-car life, not a weak structure.

The Hyundai Tucson costs similar money and is the better long-distance car, with a cleaner mechanical record at 14% against the 18% expected for Saudi SUVs of the same age and mileage. The Jolion is cheaper and better equipped for the price. The Hyundai Creta is the practical alternative at the same money.

2021 to 2023. The Kona launched here in 2018 with the split-headlight nose and was facelifted around 2021, gaining the tidier face and better screens; the second-generation car from 2024 grew substantially. A facelifted first-generation Kona is the most car for the money.

Above its segment — about 58% of its value after five years, against roughly 52% for SUVs of the same age and mileage. The Haval Jolion beats it at 65%, so if the last riyal at sale time is the deciding factor, look there first.
