Asking prices across our Kingdom listings run from SAR 20000 to SAR 200926, but the useful comparison is between cars of the same year. Among 2023 cars a CX-9 went for SAR 106,000, a CX-5 SAR 80,000, a CX-30 SAR 77,000 and a Mazda6 SAR 55,000 — so at the same age, three rows cost roughly twice what the saloon does. Go back to 2021 and the CX-9 was SAR 82,000.

Mazdas average about 62% of their value after five years across the models we can measure, which puts the brand near the top of its class here.

A used Hyundai hands you more kit per riyal and a denser service network, and Nissan the bigger SUVs. Mazda's argument is that it feels a class above both from the driver's seat.

The electrics are the quiet strength: 7% of the 1,969 Mazdas we have inspected in Saudi Arabia show an electrical or electronics fault, against the 9% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom. Previous body or panel repair runs to 53%, a little above the 49% we would expect of comparable SUVs here, and normal for a car that has covered 118,000 km on Saudi roads. Start with the CX-9 if you need seven seats and the widest choice of cars, or the CX-5 if two rows are enough and you want the cheaper car to run. The Mazda6 is the value pick if a saloon suits, and the CX-60 is the one to have for rear-drive and a six-cylinder feel.
