Our closed Saudi sales put a 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander at an average of SAR 49,000, a 2015 at SAR 24,000 and a 2014 at SAR 21,000. Current asking prices across our Kingdom listings sit between SAR 107,000 and SAR 107,000.

Further than the price suggests. The Outlanders we inspect in Saudi Arabia come to us at a median of around 138,000 km, and none of the standard fault categories — mechanical, electrical, bodywork, tyres or interior — runs above the rate we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom. A crossover still reading clean at that distance is doing its job.

The RAV4 is the default and the stronger asset, and has no third row. The Hyundai Santa Fe matches it on size but shows a mechanical fault on 33% of the ones we inspect against an expected 26% for the class. The Outlander is the cheap way to seven seats; the Montero Sport is the Mitsubishi for off the tarmac.

There are two very different cars under the name. Up to 2021 it was a light, plain crossover, restyled at the front mid-life but mechanically constant. From 2022 it moved to an all-new platform with a larger engine, a properly finished cabin and a third row an adult can use. Buy 2022 or later if you can; otherwise take the newest pre-2022 car and spend the difference on condition.

Poorly, and that is the reason to be the second owner rather than the first — about 36% after five years, where comparable SUVs manage roughly 56%. The Kia Sportage returns about 61% and the Toyota RAV4 about 62%, both for more money up front.
