The Mitsubishi ASX comes in two quite different forms, and knowing which you are looking at is the whole job: the car sold since the early 2020s uses a European-developed platform, not the Mitsubishi one that ran through the 2010s. Our Kingdom listings sit at the newest end of the nameplate.
What to inspect on a used Mitsubishi ASX
Read the mechanical section of the CarSwitch inspection report on our Kingdom ASX listings — on this model it decides the price you should pay.
Asking prices across our Kingdom listings sit between SAR 50,750 and SAR 50,750, and at present these are current-year cars — nearly new rather than used in any real sense.
Check the running gear carefully. 28% of the Mitsubishi ASXs we inspect in Saudi Arabia show a mechanical fault — engine, gearbox, suspension or steering — against the 8% we would expect for small SUVs of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom, at a median of about 69,000 km. Compact SUVs take a beating on Kingdom roads and the segment reads high: the Chevrolet Captiva comes in at 24% against 10% for its own group. Suspension and steering wear sits behind most of it.
The Hyundai Tucson is cheaper used, bigger inside and has the better mechanical record at 14% against the 18% expected for its own age and mileage group — the value choice. The Jolion is cheaper again and keeps more of its money. The ASX's argument is the badge's service reputation.
Decide on generation before year. The original ran from 2010 into the early 2020s, barely changed, on simple naturally aspirated engines — durable and cheap to fix. The current car sits on an entirely different platform, with smaller turbocharged engines and a modern cabin. Take the old one for running costs, the new one for equipment and remaining warranty.
Well — about 60% of its value after five years, against roughly 56% for small SUVs in the Kingdom, which is also the figure across used Mitsubishis. Only the Haval Jolion does clearly better, at about 65%.
