For scale, the Toyota Fortuner sits at 38% against 47% expected for its own band. Median mileage here is near 98,000 km, so the report matters most on brakes, bushes and cooling.

The Mazda CX-9 is cheaper, drives far better and keeps about 51% after five years — the sensible alternative if you can live with less room behind the third seat. The Kia Sportage costs less again but seats five, with a long factory warranty and dealers everywhere. The GS8's case is space and equipment for the price.

2022 to 2023, because of the generation change. The second-generation GS8 arrived in the early 2020s on a new platform with a much better interior and modern driver aids; the earlier car is a softer, plainer thing that is now very cheap. Otherwise buy the 2020 car on its service record alone.
