Frequently asked questions

Asking prices across our Ranger listings run from SAR 30,000 for a late-2010s truck up to SAR 36,500 for a current-year one. Cab style and drivetrain move the price here more than mileage does.

Inspect the running gear closely. 35% of the Ford Rangers we inspect in Saudi Arabia show a mechanical fault in the engine, gearbox, suspension or steering, against the 19% we would expect for pickups of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom. That is what a working truck looks like — leaf-sprung rear ends, load carrying and graded tracks punish suspension and steering long before an engine complains — and most of what we flag is bushes, dampers and joints rather than driveline. It is a maintenance list to price, not a fault in the design.

The Hilux costs less, lasts longer and gives more back — take it unless you want the Ranger's far better cabin and ride. The Ford F-150 costs more, returns about 52% and is a much larger truck; the Isuzu D-Max is the other value-retaining alternative at about 59%.

2019 to 2021 is the sensible window, and 2023 is the bigger prize. The Ranger ran on one platform from 2012, facelifted in 2016 and again around 2019 when the bi-turbo diesel and ten-speed automatic arrived; the all-new truck from roughly 2023 is wider, far better inside and offers a V6 diesel. If you want the new architecture you pay for it, and the 2019-onward car gets you most of the mechanical improvement for much less.

Weakly for a pickup: about 33% of its value after five years, against roughly 40% for pickups of similar age. The Toyota Hilux is the honest recommendation if you resell often, and it also shows mechanical faults at 8% against an expected 20%.
