The Cadillac XT5 is the mid-size, two-row Cadillac SUV that replaced the SRX, and in Saudi Arabia it does one job well: a quiet, heavily equipped luxury crossover for what a mainstream family SUV costs new.
What to look over on a used Cadillac XT5
Work through the electrical section of the inspection report on any XT5 you shortlist — on this car it is the whole negotiation.
Our Kingdom listings run from SAR 78000 for an early-2020s car to SAR 78000 for a current-year one. Trim drives that spread as hard as the year — the Premium and Sport cars carry the larger wheels, upgraded audio and driver aids, and command a real premium used.
Test the electronics, not the mechanicals. 17% of the Cadillac XT5s we inspect in Saudi Arabia come in with an electrical or electronics fault, against the 6% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom. These are usually screen, camera, sensor or power-accessory faults on a car carrying a great many of all four — cheap to diagnose, awkward to discover after you have paid. Median mileage on the ones we see is about 67,000 km, so wear is not the issue.
The Lexus RX350 is the safer buy at similar money, at around 54% retained after five years. The Range Rover Sport is the more desirable object for comparable outlay and cleaner on body history, at 39% against 54% expected for SUVs of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom — but its bills are in another league.
2020 onwards is the one to target. The XT5 was updated for the 2020 model year with a revised nose, a new infotainment system and reworked gearbox calibration, which answered most of the criticism of the 2017 to 2019 car. Later cars differ on equipment alone, so buy on condition and specification.
It behaves exactly as its class does: about 40% of its value is left after five years, matching the mid-size luxury SUV average in the Kingdom. Within Cadillac that beats the Escalade, which retains closer to 32%.
