The X3 M launched in 2019 on the second-generation X3 platform, and BMW gave it a facelift for 2022 with revised styling and updated infotainment. A post-2022 car gets the newer software and cabin; an earlier one should be cheaper without a meaningfully different drivetrain.

It holds value better than most of the segment — around 48% after five years, against roughly 44% for the class and the same 44% across BMW's own range. That is a genuine reason to consider it over a slower-depreciating badge elsewhere.

These come in with a median odometer around 45,000 km, low for the class and consistent with a car driven for enjoyment rather than daily commuting. At this mileage the tyres and brakes will show whether that enjoyment included hard driving, so check them alongside the paperwork.

The Toyota Land Cruiser retains its value better still and remains the default pick for most buyers at this money. The Lexus RX350 holds value well too and has less body or panel repair history than we would expect for the class. The Nissan Patrol is the size-up, three-row alternative if you need the extra space.
