2022 to 2024 if you want the current truck. The third-generation Tundra arrived for 2022 on an all-new frame, with coil-sprung rear suspension and a twin-turbo 3.4-litre V6 in place of the old 5.7-litre V8 — better ride, better fuel use, better cabin. Anything earlier is the second-generation V8 truck: cheaper, longer service record, a generation behind on refinement.

The Ford F-150 costs less, there are more of them, and its bodywork reads better than the class — 30% of the F-150s we inspect show prior body or panel repair, against the 54% we would expect for pickups of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom. The Chevrolet Silverado is cheaper again, but we find an electrical or electronics fault on 26% of them, against the 10% we would expect for pickups of the same age and mileage here. If you do not need full-size, theToyota Hilux is far cheaper and shows a mechanical fault on 8% of the cars we inspect.

The Tundras we inspect in Saudi Arabia come in at a median of around 44,000 km, and no fault category on this model comes in above what we would expect for pickups of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom. Cooling, brakes and tyres are the budget items once one starts working hard in Kingdom heat.
