2022 onward. The Xpander launched in 2017 and was reworked for 2022 with a bolder front end, a redesigned dashboard and better sound insulation — a change more visible inside than on the spec sheet. The engine and packaging carried over, so a 2019 or 2020 car is the same tool for less if the cabin does not bother you.

Squarely in line with its class — about 56% after five years, matching seven-seaters of the same age and the Toyota Innova at about 56%. The Suzuki Ertiga does better at about 61%.

Mechanically it is the standout in its class. Not one of the Xpanders we inspect in Saudi Arabia shows a fault in the engine, gearbox, suspension or steering, against the 13% we would expect for seven-seaters of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom — where the Kia Grand Carnival runs at 56% against an expected 25%, which is what the segment usually looks like. The one thing to look at is the trim: 22% have interior staining against an expected 9%, which is simply what happens when children ride in the back.

The Innova is the tougher, more commercial choice and costs more. The Ertiga is smaller, cheaper and the stronger asset. The Xpander sits between them and wins on cabin space for the money and on our mechanical findings. Within Mitsubishi, the Pajero is the durable option if you need a real SUV.
