2021 or later within the current shape. The second-generation X4 arrived around 2018, bigger and better resolved than the 2014-to-2018 original, and its mid-life update around 2021 brought the reshaped nose and newer infotainment. Both halves of that generation drive well; only one of them looks current.

Within BMW, the BMW X7 costs more and is the family answer, with body or panel repair on 16% of inspections against the 37% we would expect for large SUVs of its age and mileage here. The Lexus RX350 is dearer and the easiest of the three to own long-term, at 34% against an expected 44%. The Chevrolet Tahoe costs less and gives you twice the space, if the roofline is a want rather than a need.

Interiors come in clean: none of the BMW X4s we inspect in Saudi Arabia show interior staining, against the 9% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom. With a median odometer around 89,000 km, these are cars that have been used and looked after rather than worked.
