2015 to 2019 is the sweet spot. The FJ never changed platform, so a later car is a newer example of the same machine, not a better one. The 2011 update brought the improved interior and a reversing camera. Production has ended, so a 2023 is the newest FJ in existence.

The Toyota Fortuner is the practical alternative at similar money — seven seats, similar hardware underneath, and prior body or panel repair on 38% of the ones we inspect against the 47% we would expect for SUVs of that age and mileage in the Kingdom. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is more comfortable on tarmac and better equipped for the money, but it gives up the FJ's low-range hardware and the ability that comes with it.
