A 2022 Mitsubishi Montero Sport averaged SAR 86,000 in our closed Saudi sales. Asking prices on our Kingdom listings run from SAR 66,000 for an early-2020s car to SAR 66,000 for a current-year one.

The ones we inspect in Saudi Arabia arrive at a median of around 99,000 km, and our inspectors flag nothing above the rate we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom — no mechanical, electrical, bodywork or tyre finding stands out. On a body-on-frame SUV that is the answer: the chassis shrugs off Kingdom roads, and the variable is the owner rather than the model.

The Fortuner is the same idea done more expensively and held better. The Mazda CX-9 is cheaper and far better on road, but it is a crossover and will not follow either off the tarmac. Within Mitsubishi, the Outlander costs more and gives back less.

2020 to 2022. This generation launched for 2016 and was substantially updated in 2019 — new rear-light treatment, reworked cabin, better automatic — so anything from 2020 is the improved car with the first years of its price already gone. The chassis and V6 underneath went unchanged, which is why parts are easy across the Kingdom.

This is where it loses the argument — about 49% after five years, against roughly 56% for SUVs of its size and age. The Toyota Fortuner is the direct rival and returns about 65%, so the Montero Sport has to win you over on purchase price.
