2019 to 2022, all facelifted third-generation cars. That generation launched in 2014 and was updated for 2018 with new lighting, a revised gearbox and better infotainment, then ran until the mid-2020s. Buying from 2019 puts you past the generation's early cars.
In line with the class — about 48% of its value after five years, matching the segment in the Kingdom and sitting a little below the 52% across used Minis. The Mini Clubman is stronger at about 55%.
Suspension and steering are what to budget for. 18% of the Mini Coopers we inspect in Saudi Arabia show a mechanical fault — engine, gearbox, suspension or steering — against the 10% we would expect for cars of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom, at a median of about 60,000 km. A short wheelbase on firm suspension and low-profile tyres takes a beating on Kingdom road surfaces. The Lexus ES 250 is the counter-example at 4% against 15% for its own group.
The real comparison is inside the range. The Clubman is the Cooper with rear doors and a boot, costs less used and keeps more of its value — the pragmatic pick. The Mini Countryman is the SUV-shaped one, dearer and the only Mini that works as a family car. The Cooper is the sharpest to drive; buy it if the car is for you, not the household.
