Stay on the 2018-onward side of the line. The Traverse was completely reworked for 2018 — longer, lighter, with a much better cabin and a nine-speed automatic — and the 2009 to 2017 car is a heavier, older design that is now cheap for good reason. 2019 to 2021 is the sweet spot.
Weakly, at about 40% of its value after five years against a 47% average for used SUVs in the Kingdom — which is the argument for buying one used rather than new. The first owner absorbed that drop; you get three usable rows and the cargo space behind them for the money.
This is a car to buy on the inspection report, not on the advert. 37% of the Chevrolet Traverses we inspect in Saudi Arabia show a mechanical fault in the engine, gearbox, suspension or steering, against the 27% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom, and electrical faults run at 22% against an expected 12%. Big front-drive family SUVs worked hard for a decade all read this way — the Hyundai Santa Fe shows 33% against an expectation of 26% — so the individual car's history decides it.
The Toyota Fortuner costs more and holds about 65%, so if the resale figure is what you care about most that is the honest alternative — you pay for it up front. The Mazda CX-9 is similar money, holds about 51% and drives better; the Traverse beats both on third-row and cargo space.
