Frequently asked questions

Our Saudi sales put a 2024 MG HS at about SAR 65,000, a 2022 at SAR 48,000, a 2021 at SAR 39,000 and a 2020 at SAR 31,000. The 2020 and 2021 cars are the value if you can accept the pre-facelift interior. Live asking prices run from SAR 27,000 for an early car up to SAR 116,049 for a current-year one.

20% of the MG HSs we inspect in Saudi Arabia show a mechanical fault — engine, gearbox, suspension or steering — against the 11% we would expect for SUVs of the same age and mileage in the Kingdom, at a median of about 70,000 km. The class is not clean either: the Hyundai Santa Fe reads 33% against 26% for its own group. 52% carry prior body or panel repair against 39% expected for the same reference group. The interiors are the best in the class — no staining at all, against the 8% we would expect of comparable Saudi SUVs.

The Sportage costs similar money, keeps more of it and has the better panel record at 47% against the 51% expected for its group — the sensible default. The Mazda CX-9 asks more for three rows and a better drive. The HS wins on equipment and interior condition.

2022 or later if reliability leads; 2020 to 2021 if price does. The HS arrived at the end of the 2010s and was facelifted in the early 2020s — restyled, new interior, updated driver assistance. That facelift is the line worth crossing.

Better than the class here — about 57% of its value after five years, against roughly 51% for Saudi SUVs and 53% across used MGs. The Kia Sportage is ahead at about 61%.
